In-Home Care
Who is eligible for
services:
-
Frail and disabled
persons age 60 and over might be eligible for In-Home Services, provided
they are residents of Martinsville, Danville, or the County of Franklin,
Henry, Patrick or Pittsylvania.
Some of the other factors considered in deciding eligibility are:

Whether services can
prevent the need for
institutional (usually
nursing home) care
-
The individual's ability to
care for himself
or herself, based on
physical, mental or emotional circumstances
-
Whether help is available
from family
members or other sources
Service Hours:
Service is provided between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
Monday through Friday. The number of hours
provided is based on the particular needs of the
individual, and availability of staff.
Limitation on
Services:
-
There is a waiting list for services in many areas.
The wait can range from one week to a couple
of months; occasionally longer.

Services are provided in the more populated
areas. Some outlying sections of counties are
not served due to staffing limitations.

Moderate fees are charged on a sliding scale
basis, according to income. People whose
income is near or below poverty level are not
charged a fee. People who receive a service for
which no fee is charged are encouraged to
contribute toward the cost of the service.

Services are provided by certified home health
aides licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia,
and by experienced homemakers. Services are
supervised by registered and licensed nurses.
Personal Care:

Help with bathing, dressing, grooming and ambulation

Average level of service is two hours per day, two or three days per week
Housekeeping:
Laundry

Grocery shopping ( up to 20 items)

Assistance with other essential errands

Average level of service is two hours, one day per wee
Chore:
Respite Care:

Offers caregiver a few hours off from the care of a family member who
is
age
60 or older

Average level of service is three hours, one day per week
